Umpire’s Report
Umpiring is a fantastic opportunity for young adults over
the age of 12. It teaches confidence, responsibility and
discipline in an ideal setting outdoors. All this and
compensation is a bonus. For most of our young adults, this
is their first opportunity to earn money. It is also the
best way to learn the rules of baseball. At RYBL, we make
every effort to train our umpires through a mentor program
and on the field instruction to supplement current skills.
 |
This year we have 45
teams competing in Pitched Baseball. In May and
June, over 400 games will be played. |
 |
30 of our 46 umpires
in 2007 rejoined us this year |
 |
26 new umpires have
been accepted and trained for a crew of 56 in 2008 |
 |
Over 20 umpires have
been OBA certified with 2 that are Level 3 |

Umpire-in-Chief, Jim Wright at

Taylor Whitney Remembered (#25) |
|

This year all Royal York baseball players will be wearing a
memorial crest on their uniform bearing the Number 25 to honour the memory of
Taylor Whitney.
The crest is intended as a memorial to Taylor who played for
Royal York from the age of six until his death at age 17. It
is also meant as a reminder of the real risks that young men
and women face in the transition to adulthood.
